Vercel, a company at the forefront of agentic infrastructure, is actively seeking a Commercial Account Executive to join its growing sales team. This pivotal role will be based in key tech hubs including Austin, New York City, and San Francisco, and will focus on nurturing and expanding the company's existing customer base. The objective is to drive significant growth within Vercel's current client portfolio, ensuring long-term success and satisfaction.
About the Role and Vercel's Vision
Vercel positions itself as the "agentic infrastructure company," aiming to empower both human developers and AI agents to build and deploy the next generation of digital products with unprecedented speed and efficiency. With a proven track record as the team behind influential technologies like Next.js, v0, and the AI SDK, Vercel has consistently shaped the web development landscape. The company's platform is trusted by industry giants such as OpenAI, PayPal, and Ramp, alongside millions of developers worldwide. As software evolves into an era where agents play an increasingly active role in creation and operation, Vercel is building the foundational platform for this future.
The Commercial Account Executive role is designed to be a strategic "hunting" position within the existing customer segment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire commercial relationship, encompassing account strategy, pipeline generation, expansion initiatives, renewals, and overall retention. This involves collaborating closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, from developers and engineering leaders to product teams, executives, and procurement specialists. The core mission is to deeply understand customer needs and connect Vercel's offerings to tangible technical and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities and Strategic Focus
This role demands a proactive and commercially driven individual who can leverage product adoption data, usage signals, and thorough account research to identify expansion opportunities. The Account Executive will be expected to develop compelling hypotheses and initiate new conversations that lead to growth. A critical aspect of the job involves quarterbacking cross-functional Vercel teams, including Solutions Engineering, Developer Success, and Product, to remove obstacles and ensure customers achieve their desired outcomes. Success in this position hinges on strong commercial acumen, a genuine curiosity for technology, disciplined execution, and the ability to navigate complex sales cycles and ambiguous situations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the commercial strategy, retention, and growth for a dedicated portfolio of existing Vercel customers.
- Developing comprehensive account plans that detail customer priorities, key stakeholders, current workloads, potential risks, and identified whitespace for expansion.
- Proactively generating pipeline through targeted prospecting, analyzing product usage signals, and conducting in-depth account research.
- Cultivating trusted relationships with a broad spectrum of customer contacts, including developers, engineering leadership, executives, and procurement teams.
- Managing the end-to-end renewal and expansion cycles, from initial discovery and qualification through technical evaluation, negotiation, and closing.
- Identifying and mitigating customer churn risks early, developing clear strategies to protect recurring revenue streams.
- Articulating the value of Vercel's platform in terms of measurable business outcomes, such as accelerated product delivery, enhanced performance, improved reliability, increased conversion rates, and greater developer productivity.
- Collaborating with Solutions Architects to understand customer architectures, uncover new use cases, and facilitate technical evaluations.
- Mobilizing internal resources from Developer Success, Product, Marketing, and executive leadership to advance customer objectives.
- Maintaining accurate forecasts, opportunity plans, renewal timelines, and customer context within Vercel's CRM systems.
- Leveraging AI, automation, and repeatable workflows to enhance account research, prioritization, and execution efficiency.
- Sharing successful strategies, customer insights, and market feedback to contribute to team-wide improvement.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Vercel is seeking an Account Executive who combines robust sales fundamentals with a keen technical curiosity and an unwavering commitment to customer success. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of consistently achieving revenue targets through effective pipeline generation, opportunity management, negotiation, and closing deals. Experience in owning and growing existing customer relationships, including managing renewals and driving expansion, is essential. This role requires a proactive approach to pipeline creation, rather than relying solely on inbound leads.
Candidates should be adept at developing strategic viewpoints on accounts and translating thoughtful hypotheses into productive customer conversations. Building credibility with technical, executive, and commercial stakeholders is paramount. The ability to quickly learn complex products and a genuine interest in how modern web and AI applications are built and scaled are highly valued. Translating technical capabilities into clear, compelling business value is a core requirement. Comfort navigating ambiguity, complex organizational structures, and multi-stakeholder sales cycles is expected. Strong discipline in account planning, forecasting, and opportunity management is crucial.
Furthermore, the ideal candidate will use data, customer signals, and sound judgment to prioritize their time effectively. They should be coachable, collaborative, proactive, and possess a team-first mentality. Resilience and enthusiasm for tackling complex commercial challenges are also key attributes. Bonus points are awarded for experience in SaaS, cloud infrastructure, developer tools, or product-led growth companies, as well as experience selling to technical buyers and leading expansions across multiple workloads or business units. Familiarity with cloud modernization, AI adoption, or application development challenges, along with experience in high-growth environments and proficiency with sales tools like Salesforce, Gong, or Outreach, are also considered advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
Vercel offers a competitive compensation package, including equity, an inclusive healthcare plan, and opportunities for professional development through mentorship and event attendance. The total compensation package may also include benefits, equity, and eligibility for company bonuses or variable pay programs. Vercel is committed to fostering an inclusive environment and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, even if they don't meet every single qualification listed.
